Habermas receives the Skytte Prize in Political Science

Jürgen Habermas is awarded the 2024 Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science. He is honored for having “constantly reminded us, theoretically and empirically, that the very lifeblood of democracy depends on human capacity and willingness to respect others by means of communicative action and on that basis to engage in critical argumentation and discourse.”


Among the previous prize winners are: Robert Dahl, Elinor Claire Ostrom, Brian Barry, Hanna Pitkin, Ronald F. Inglehart, Pippa Norris, Francis Fukuyama, Amartya Sen, Jane Mansbridge & Robert E. Goodin.

The Skytte Prize, which includes a cash award of SEK 500,000 and a medal, will be presented to Habermas at a ceremony held at Uppsala University on September 14, 2024.
